Arsenal have already launched an offensive to sign Barcelona target Amadou Onana

Arsenal have already ‘launched an offensive’ to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, who is on the radar of Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo (page 3).

The Gunners have been long-term admirers of the Belgium international and they were first interested in landing his signature during the 2023 winter transfer window.

The club have continued to be linked with him and Mundo Deportivo claim that Arsenal are Barcelona’s main competitors in the pursuit of the former Lille midfielder.

It is added that Gunners have already made an initial move for the 22-year-old, but don’t mention whether they could pursue a deal in the current transfer window.

Everton are said to be eyeing between €70-90 million for the highly-rated midfielder. Barcelona are also interested but are unlikely to make a move until the summer.

Arsenal could delay Onana approach

The Belgian has developed into a quality midfielder with his strong defensive attributes. He has won an impressive 2.6 tackles per league game this season, winning 65 per cent of his duels.

He has also made 6.5 ball recoveries per appearance. There are no surprises that Arsenal and Barcelona are hot on the trail of him. Onana has the potential to become a world-class star.

Arsenal hold an interest in signing him but we believe any approach could be delayed until the summer with the lack of funds. The club need player sales to make such a huge outlay.

The Gunners are currently focused on landing a marquee striker this month. Even that seems unlikely. The club are prepared to part ways with Eddie Nketiah to recoup some of the funds.

Hence, we don’t see a deal happening this winter. Everton could also snub the opportunity to sell Onana, considering they find themselves in another relegation battle in the top-flight.
