Arsenal keeping tabs on Wolfsburg centre-back David Odogu

Wolfsburg centre-back David Odogu is attracting interest from Arsenal and a host of Premier League clubs, according to the Daily Mail’s transfer confidential.

Brentford, Chelsea, and Leicester City are keeping tabs on the 17-year-old alongside the Gunners, but his club are hoping that their offer of a professional contract ahead of his 18th birthday could tempt him to remain with them.

Odogu’s mature displays are drawing plenty of attention, and Arsenal are one of the clubs that could make a firm move for his services over the coming weeks.

The 6ft 3in defender has been compared to Real Madrid centre-back and fellow German Antonio Rudiger due to his physical strength, speed and excellent tackling ability.

Odogu can play on both the right and left side of central defence, and that particular quality might have attracted Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners are not short of options in centre-back right now, with William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Ben White and Jakub Kiwior all available in the position.

Odogu is yet to make his Bundesliga bow but has been tipped to do so very soon given his huge potential and defensive capabilities.

He won the European under-17 Championship and FIFA under-17 World Cup with Germany last year, impressing in both competitions and attracting suitors to himself as a result.

He will be joining the Arsenal youth squad if a move should work out, but he is likely to prefer a move to where he is guaranteed a quicker pathway to first-team football.

Arteta has not handed the talented academy players plenty of opportunities this term as many would have wanted, with Reuell Walters yet to make his debut despite being tipped to do so in the dead-rubber Champions League game against PSV Eindhoven last month.
