Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey likely to return to action this month

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has stepped up his recovery and could be available for selection when the Gunners travel to take on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on January 30, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Ghana international has not played for the North London club since coming on against Manchester City on October 8.

Partey picked up a knock in training ahead of the Champions League against Sevilla and was forced to undergo surgery.

He has missed 18 games since then and has only featured in four Premier League games in 2023-24.

The 30-year-old was omitted from the Ghana squad for the Africa Cup of Nations as a result of the thigh injury but is edging closer to a return as his rehabilitation has gone as expected.

Arsenal are currently in Dubai for warm-weather training and will return to action on January 20 when they host Crystal Palace at Emirates Stadium.

They headed into the break on the back of three consecutive defeats across all competitions, and having the versatile Partey back will be a massive boost.

The midfielder often featured at right-back before getting injured, and manager Mikel Arteta could do with him given the current injury woes at the back.

Arsenal have found themselves in fourth place in the Premier League table, five points behind leaders Liverpool after 20 games having won just one of their last five league games.

They host Liverpool after the Forest game and having Partey available will come in handy as they look to avenge their FA Cup elimination.

Gabriel Jesus is also expected to return to action having missed the 2-0 loss to the Reds, and Arteta will hope for more injury boosts in the coming days.
