‘Work is underway’: AC Milan aim to sign Jakub Kiwior in final hours of transfer window
|AC Milan have their sights on signing Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior on loan before the winter transfer window closes, according to Corriere dello Sport (page 21).
The Poland international joined the Gunners from Spezia last winter, but he has since been used sparingly from the starting XI.
The 23-year-old has played as a back-up to left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko this season despite being a central defender.
Corriere dello Sport now claim that ‘work is underway’ at Milan to sign Kiwior on a temporary deal with a possible buy clause.
With injuries to Fikayo Tomori, Pierre Kalulu and Malick Thiaw, the Rossoneri are keen on bringing Kiwior in the coming days.
Arsenal are reluctant to accept an initial loan, but Milan are optimistic that a deal could be agreed in the ‘final hours’ of the transfer market.
Arsenal unlikely to loan out Kiwior unless replacement is found
The Gunners are looking to add a versatile defender before the deadline but as things stand, there has been no progress over the same.
Jurrien Timber is pencilled to return to first-team training by the end of February and could be involved in some capacity from March onwards.
However, the club are likely to handle him with extra caution after a serious knee injury.
Takehiro Tomiyasu will be back in action after his Asian Cup duty with Japan, but Arsenal could still resist the prospect of losing Kiwior this winter.
Tomiyasu has also had an injury-plagued career with the Gunners, and the club can’t afford to leave themselves short in depth for the season run-in.
Arsenal will want a replacement in place if Kiwior wants to join Milan. Even in that case, the club should demand Milan to include a buy obligation.
