Barcelona attentive to Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey

Barcelona are attentive to Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey who could be sold during the summer transfer window, according to AS.

The Ghana international has had a difficult season with the Gunners. He has already missed 20 games for the club with two separate injuries.

Partey returned to first-team training yesterday but this has not stopped speculation over his future.

AS claim that Barcelona are keeping a close eye on Partey, who could be sold in the summer due to the Gunners’ long-term interest in Martin Zubimendi.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has been eyeing Zubimendi for some time and it is reported that Partey could be sold to recoup some of the funds.

While Barcelona are monitoring the Ghanaian, it is suggested that a move to Saudi Arabia is more likely as Arsenal won’t sell him on the cheap.

Partey could head for exit door this summer

Partey started the campaign in an unfamiliar right-back position before suffering a groin injury.

He missed seven games as a result. On his comeback, he suffered another setback. The midfielder has not featured for the last 13 matches due to a thigh problem.

The former Atletico man is likely to be involved in the matchday squad against Nottingham Forest. He could have a key role to play over the coming months.

Despite this, we won’t be surprised if he is offloaded in the summer, considering the number of injuries he has suffered since his €50 million move from Atletico.

With his contract expiring in June next year, the club will want to at least recoup 50 per cent of the fee. With Barcelona’s financial issues, they may not afford him.

The same could be said for Juventus who are long-term admirers. In our view, Partey could make a big-money move to Saudi thus paving the way for a new arrival.
