Arsenal ready to axe three stars to boost their spending power

Arsenal have had a quiet January transfer window so far, with the Gunners yet to add a player to the squad.

The Financial Fair Play restrictions mean they will likely have to sell before bringing in new recruits.

That is the situation of most clubs in England this January, with the Premier League transfers spending very down due to the FFP rules.

Mikel Arteta’s side will look to offload some of the fringe players to boost their spending power.

Jorginho

One player who has been linked with an exit for some time is Jorginho, who has been struggling for regular minutes at Arsenal this season.

Jorginho came to North London in January 2023 but has failed to make a huge impact at the Emirates Stadium.

With Declan Rice arriving in the summer, the Italian has mostly been featured off the bench this season.

Arsenal could look to recoup some of the £12 million fee they paid to sign Jorginho in 2023 by offloading him this winter.

This will likely be their last chance as the midfielder’s contract is set to run out at the end of the campaign.

Emile Smith Rowe

Emile Smith Rowe is another player who has been heavily linked with an exit this winter.

The 23-year-old has been on the fringes of the squad this campaign, making only one Premier League start.

West Ham United made a loan offer for Smith Rowe earlier this month, but the player and club both knocked back the approach.

However, Bundesliga side RB Leipzig have now entered the race for the attacking midfielder, with Mikel Arteta believed to be undecided on allowing him to leave (per The Sun).

Arsenal may end up retaining the England international’s services, but nothing can be ruled out before the end of the transfer window.

Thomas Partey

Thomas Partey has endured a challenging 2023-24 season, with injuries limiting his involvement to just three Premier League starts.

He last played for Arsenal in October 2023 and has since been sidelined with a hamstring issue.

With his contract expiring in 2025, the Gunners are said to be ready to sell him to recoup some of the £45m fee they paid Atletico Madrid in 2020.

Reports from Spain suggest that Barcelona are monitoring the 30-year-old but their financial troubles mean they are only likely to make a concrete offer in the summer.
