Paul Scholes blasts Oleksandr Zinchenko for regularly stepping into the Arsenal midfield against Nottingham Forest
|Arsenal secured a 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest last night to temporarily move into second place in the Premier League table, and while most of their players put in a top performance, Paul Scholes was far from pleased with Oleksandr Zinchenko.
The Ukraine international left-back is known for often joining the Gunners’ midfield in possession, and he was at it again last night.
However, Scholes took exception to Zinchenko stepping into the Arsenal midfield from left-back as he regularly does, and the former Manchester United midfielder took to Instagram to launch an X-rated rant at the former Manchester City star.
“A full-back coming into central midfield is an insult to a central midfield player,” Scholes posted on his Insta story.
“I think he/she should be told to get the f*** back out there… night.”
The former midfielder has seen the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Zinchenko and others regularly moving into the middle of the park while playing in their full-back positions, and he is clearly not a fan of that style of play.
However, Scholes is forgetting that football has changed in recent years and most Premier League clubs and some of their European counterparts now prefer to utilise their full-backs further forward.
The Arsenal star actually plays in midfield at international level, while Liverpool have largely deployed their right-back in midfield these days.
Zinchenko showed exactly why he has been playing further forward as he grabbed the assist that put the Gunners in front last night at the City Ground club.
It was only the 27-year-old’s third involvement in a Premier League goal this term, but he is a constant attacking threat anytime he is on the pitch, and Scholes will have to get used to such sights as soon as possible as it will not stop happening anytime soon.
