Arsenal midfielder Miguel Azeez could join Atletico Baleares today
|Arsenal midfielder Miguel Azeez could join Spanish third-division club Atletico Baleares before the January transfer window closes tonight, according to CBS Sports journalist James Benge.
The Gunners are working on a permanent deal which would see the Hale End academy graduate leave the North London club.
Azeez was once widely considered to be one of the brightest prospects at the Arsenal academy, but he has not been able to break into the first-team.
The 21-year-old has had loan spells with Portsmouth, Union Deportiva Ibiza and Wigan Athletic, but a permanent exit could now be on the cards.
Azeez has been with Arsenal since he was five years of age, making his first-team debut in December 2020 after replacing Joe Willock in the closing stages of the Europa League group game against Dundalk.
However, his last two loan spells did not go as planned and the Gunners are now willing to part with him.
While Arsenal will not be smiling to the bank by selling the England youth international, they are expected to include sell-on clauses, matching rights and appearance add-ons in the deal.
The move should see them earn some cash in the future if Azeez gets to fulfil the potential he displayed at youth level.
He is not the only one expected to leave Arsenal today, with goalkeeper Alex Runarsson set to join Copenhagen on a free transfer, while Charles Sagoe Jr is expected to join Swansea City on loan until the end of the season.
Talented left-back Lino Sousa is also closing in on a permanent move to join Aston Villa, but it remains to be seen whether there will be any arrivals at the Emirates Stadium club before 11 pm.
