Declan Rice praises Jorginho after man of the match display vs Liverpool

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice heaped praise on Jorginho following his man of the match performance against Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Gunners registered a third-straight win in the top-flight yesterday. They restricted the Reds to just one shot on target and were by far the better team.

Jorginho and Rice formed a brilliant pivot in the centre of the park and the duo were a key reason behind the Gunners dominating the proceedings at the Emirates.

The former was handed the man of the match in his first league start since November. Speaking after the game, Rice described Jorginho as a top player with high quality.

He told Sky Sports (via BBC Sport): “From start to finish it has been really positive and I think you could feel that today.”Because we have people like Jorginho and skipper – Jorginho was good today.”

“How he controls games he has qualities that other players do not have. Playing in the same position he does stuff at such a high quality and over this years he has been a top player.”

Jorginho played in a slightly advanced role with Rice behind him. The 32-year-old completed the most passes in the game (45) while winning seven ground and aerial duels.

The former Chelsea man also made three interceptions, two clearances, won two tackles alongside two fouls. It was almost the perfect game for him against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Hopefully, manager Mikel Arteta will continue with the same midfield partnership in the coming games. Arsenal have a chance to close the two-point gap to the top of the table.

The Gunners face West Ham United next on the road on Sunday. They will be aiming to avenge the surprise 2-0 loss to the Hammers at the Emirates Stadium in late December.
