Martin Odegaard delivers sublime display for Arsenal in West Ham rout

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard delivered a fantastic performance during the 6-0 Premier League rout of West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners went into the game on a three-match winning streak and it was anticipated that they could face a stiff challenge against the Hammers.

For the first 20 odd minutes, it was quite even between the clubs, but the Gunners started stamping their authority before breaking the deadlock.

William Saliba opened the scoring in the 32nd minute. This was followed by goals from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes and Leandro Trossard before the break.

Shortly after the hour mark, Saka netted his second goal of the game before Declan Rice unleashed a stunning long-range strike to make it 6-0.

Saka was handed the man of the match for his brace while Rice also earned plaudits from the fans for his two assists and his fantabulous goal in the derby.

However, Odegaard was equally impressive on the day. The Norwegian orchestrated the proceedings from the number 10 position with two fine assists.

Aside from his goal involvements, the 25-year-old had a stunning 121 touches, completing 107 passes.

He also created seven chances for his teammates and won 100 per cent of his duels (3/3).

Odegaard’s performances are essential to Arsenal dominating games and the captain seems to be hitting his stride at the right time in the pursuit of the title.

With the victory, Arsenal stay third in the table, but they have significantly increased their goal difference and are only behind on goals scored to second-placed Manchester City.

Meanwhile, the club are two points adrift of leaders Liverpool and they will be aiming to keep up the pressure with a fifth successive win at Burnley next weekend.
