Arsenal pressing to sign Athletic winger Nico Williams

Arsenal are pressing to sign Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams at the end of the season, according to Spanish outlet El Chiringuito.
The Gunners currently have Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka as the undisputed starters for the wide attacking positions. Leandro Trossard has provided good back-up when required.
Despite this, the north London giants are on the look out for a new winger this summer and El Chiringuito claim that the club are pressing to sign Williams, who has excelled in Spain.
There is a feeling at Athletic that he is going to leave this summer.
Williams would be an outstanding signing for Arsenal
Mikel Arteta’s side currently have a quality deputy in Trossard for the left wing. The former Brighton man has been particularly brilliant with his goal contributions off the bench.
However, the club are missing the same level of quality on the opposite flank. Saka has had to handle the entire burden from the right wing and he has prospered with 26 goal involvements.
Reiss Nelson has not impressed from the role in his limited chances. Arteta will be aiming for a new recruit, who can provide added quality off the bench or even replace Saka when he is rested.
Williams seems an ideal fit in our opinion. The 21-year-old has played predominantly from the left flank this season, registering five goals and 10 assists from 24 games in all competitions.
The youngster has been equally impressive from the right wing. He has had 35 goal contributions from 71 games in the position. Out of those, 13 came from 26 outings in the 2022/23 season.
Hence, the Pamplona-born star would be an outstanding acquisition. He also works hard for the team off the ball and has won 5.5 duels, 1.2 tackles and made 4.6 recoveries per league game.
Williams signed a new long-term deal until June 2027 last summer, but the release clause remains unchanged at €50 million which should not prove a stumbling block for Arsenal.
