Arsenal very interested in signing Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee

Arsenal are very interested in signing Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee during this summer’s transfer window, according to Calciomercato.

The Gunners are expected to pursue a new centre-forward at the end of the campaign. The club have been linked with Zirkzee in recent weeks.

Calciomercato now claim that AC Milan and Napoli are among Italian clubs interested in the striker, and they have already made contact with Bologna.

However, the duo have to watch out for competition from the Premier League, and Arsenal ‘first and foremost’ as they are ‘very interested’ in Zirkzee.

Bologna are likely to demand between €45-50 million to sell their prized asset.

Arsenal should target a marquee striker this summer

Zirkzee has caught the eye in his second year at Bologna. He has registered nine goals and six assists from 26 appearances for the club in all competitions.

However, his statistics are underwhelming. The 22-year-old has a lot of potential, but the Gunners need someone with a consistent goalscoring record next term.

Arsenal have already Gabriel Jesus who can make similar goal contributions. The Brazilian has not been consistent enough while injuries have also hampered him.

Zirkzee has an aerial presence but other than that, he is a similar mould of a striker. Arsenal need a marquee addition if they want to challenge for the league title.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney or Napoli’s Victor Osimhen would be better choices for the Gunners. We would be surprised if the club secure a deal for Zirkzee this summer.

In our opinion, the speculation could be agent-driven to invite bids from elsewhere.

Zirkzee averages a goal in every 3.5 games in his career and won’t be a statement signing for Arsenal.
