Arsenal ready to enter race with PSG for Victor Osimhen

Arsenal are ready to enter the race with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer, according to Corriere dello Sport (page 12).

The Gunners are expected to pursue a marquee striker at the end of the campaign, and they have already been linked with several names including Osimhen.

The Nigerian star currently has a release clause worth €130 million in his contract. It is claimed that the club are ‘ready’ to sign up for the sprint alongside PSG for his services.

London rivals Chelsea have also been linked, but Corriere dello Sport report that they could miss out on his signature without the guarantee of Champions League football.

Osimhen would be a good signing for Arsenal

The Gunners have had Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah as their main strikers this term. Jesus has made several key contributions, but he has also picked up multiple injuries.

The Brazilian is no longer a reliable figure up front as a result. Manager Mikel Arteta may want another marquee striker and Osimhen could be a realistic target for Arsenal.

The 25-year-old was in sparkling form last term with 31 goals and five assists from 39 games, but he has struggled to replicate the same this season with eight goals and three assists from 18 outings.

A hamstring injury kept him on the sidelines for a month while he has not played for Napoli since the beginning of the year due after featuring at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Osimhen would be a solid upgrade on Jesus for the Gunners, but there remains an issue over his fitness. He has missed 58 games for club and country since his move to Napoli.

This is something which concerns us. Osimhen has yet to stay unscathed over an entire season. Despite this, we won’t be surprised if Arsenal break their transfer record to sign him.
