Confirmed Arsenal line-up vs Newcastle, Jorginho starts

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made one change to the starting line-up for tonight’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners are currently on a five-match winning streak in the top-flight, but they were disappointing in the Champions League in midweek, losing to Porto on the road (1-0).

The manager will want a strong response after failing to register a shot on target. Ahead of tonight’s game, the Spaniard has made a solitary change from the defeat.

Leandro Trossard has dropped to the bench which means that Kai Havertz will lead the line.

Jorginho has been brought into the heart of the midfield alongside Declan Rice. This should provide the Gunners with more defensive stability and control against the Magpies.

Confirmed Arsenal line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Newcastle: Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Kiwior; Jorginho, Rice, Odegaard; Saka, Havertz, Martinelli.

Meanwhile, there is a surprise on the bench with Gabriel Jesus back in the matchday squad for the first time since the 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest where he was the man of the match.

The Brazilian has been nursing a knee issue for the past few weeks. He has made a timely comeback and could get minutes in the second half. Elsewhere, Thomas Partey remains unavailable.

Partey was spotted in full training yesterday, but he has not been deemed fit enough to be involved.

Arsenal are currently five points behind leaders Liverpool for the top spot. They must return to winning ways to close the gap and keep up with the Reds and Manchester City in the title race.
