Arsenal emerge as main candidates to sign Chelsea flop Mykhailo Mudryk

Arsenal have emerged as one of the main candidates to sign Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk this summer, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

The Ukraine international was the Gunners’ top target in January 2023, but the Blues beat them to his signature with a better transfer offer on the table.

The London side signed the 22-year-old for an initial €70 million (£60m) from Shakhtar Donetsk. He has yet to live up to the expectations in his 43 appearances.

Fichajes claim that the Blues are now considering their options and they could be open to sanctioning a loan deal for the struggling forward this summer.

A definitive sale could also be considered with a view to recovering their initial investment, but that is a ‘more remote’ possibility at the current point.

The winger is already attracting interest. It is reported that Juventus and Arsenal have emerged as the ‘main candidates’ to secure his signature.

Arsenal unlikely to return for Mudryk’s services

The Gunners earmarked Mudryk as their preferred attacking target in January last year, but the Blues hijacked the transfer deal at the final hurdle.

This has proved a blessing in disguise for Mikel Arteta’s side. The club went on to sign Leandro Trossard from Brighton & Hove Albion who has been a revelation.

Trossard has been superb in the Gunners shirt with 11 goals and 12 assists from 53 appearances. He has averaged a goal contribution in every 106 minutes.

On the contrary, Mudryk has endured a tough spell with the Blues. He has registered only four goals and five assists. He averages 208 minutes per goal involvement.

It is quite clear that Arsenal got the better deal. Trossard also cost only one-third of the investment (£21m) and is currently enjoying the best phase of his career.

In our opinion, the ship has sailed with regards to Mudryk. Arsenal have adequate quality on the left wing with Gabriel Martinelli, Trossard, Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe.

While Trossard has the extra ability to play up front, Mudryk is left-wing dominant. We simply don’t see the Gunners returning for his services at the current point of time.

Mudryk has failed to live up to the high expectations and his next move could be a temporary one. He may most likely pursue a new challenge in another league.
