David Ornstein names six players Arsenal could sell this summer
|David Ornstein has revealed six players that Arsenal could sell during the summer transfer window.
The Gunners have had another fantastic Premier League campaign and they are currently only two points behind leaders Liverpool with 12 games to play.
Regardless of how the season ends, there will be huge investment on new players in the summer but this could coincide with exits to avoid FFP breaches.
In a Q&A session on The Athletic, Ornstein revealed that Aaron Ramsdale, Kieran Tierney, Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah could head for the exit door.
He said: “You could envisage Aaron Ramsdale, Kieran Tierney, Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah all being looked at by suitors. I expect a really busy summer at the Emirates.”
Ramsdale has been a back-up for the goalkeeping role since David Raya’s debut in mid-September.
The Englishman has made just two appearances for the Gunners in the last five months. It is quite clear that Raya is the undisputed choice between the sticks.
This should urge him to move on in the summer in the quest for regular playing time. Arsenal have identified Ajax’s Diant Ramaj as a possible successor.
Meanwhile, Tierney and Tavares are already surplus to requirements with the vast competition for places in the left-back position for the Gunners at the moment.
When the squad is at full strength, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jurrien Timber, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jakub Kiwior are all options for manager Mikel Arteta at left-back.
It won’t be unsurprising if Tierney and Tavares were to leave the club permanently this summer.
Smith Rowe and Nketiah have had some stand-out moments in the Gunners shirt, but the academy duo may start contemplating their futures at the end of the season.
Both are regulars on the bench as things stand. With Arsenal eyeing a marquee striker and a central midfielder, the pair could likewise secure new challenges elsewhere.
Lokonga has had a positive loan stint at Luton Town, and this could benefit the Gunners in securing a higher transfer value for his sale in the next transfer window.
The six players mentioned by Ornstein are currently valued at a combined €134 million (£114.6m) by Transfermarkt. It is left to be seen whether the club can recoup as much this summer.
