Arsenal handed boost in signing Viktor Gyokeres for lesser fee
|Arsenal have been handed a boost in signing Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres for a lesser fee this summer.
The Gunners have been in scintillating form in the Premier League this year, scoring 31 goals in their seven victories.
Despite this, they continue to be linked with marquee strikers and Gyokeres is one of those on the club’s transfer radar.
It is now reported by O Jogo (page 6) that Sporting could loosen their stance on their prized asset during the summer.
The Portuguese giants were previously adamant that the 25-year-old would not leave for less than his €100 million release.
However, it is now claimed that there is room to negotiate as Sporting will have to make some cash to balance their books.
Arsenal are mentioned as one of the top European clubs that have been closely following the Swede.
Arsenal could pursue deal for Gyokeres
The Gunners are currently scoring for fun in the Premier League, but this has not ended the speculation over signing a new striker.
In our view, manager Mikel Arteta will definitely want a new centre-forward regardless of how the club end the current campaign.
The Spaniard won’t want to rest on the laurels, considering how the club struggled to find the net during the crucial festive period.
Gyokeres could be a top target, having proved his credentials in the Portuguese top-flight.
The Swede bagged 22 goals and 11 assists for Coventry City last term, but none of the English top-flight clubs were tempted to sign him.
He has taken his game to the next level at Sporting with 32 goals and 11 assists from just 35 outings.
It appears very likely that he will be leaving the Primeira Liga giants at the end of the campaign.
While the Premier League will present a more difficult challenge for Gyokeres, the Swede could still prove a top-quality striker for Arsenal.
If Arsenal can secure his services for around €60m, it would be a good piece of business.
