Martin Odegaard shows his class as Arsenal dominate Sheffield United
|Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard delivered another fantastic performance during the club’s 6-0 Premier League rout of Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
The Gunners went into the game on a stunning six-match league winning run where they had scored 25 goals and conceded just three in the process.
It was anticipated that they would dominate the proceedings against the Blades and it was exactly the case with five goals before the half-time interval.
With such a commanding lead, the Gunners put the gas off the pedal in the second half with substitutions and settled for a 6-0 win over Chris Wilder’s side.
Odegaard has been in scintillating form lately and he led by example again. The Norwegian star opened the scoring for the Gunners in the eighth minute.
The 25-year-old did not register another direct goal contribution, but he was fantastic in the build-up play with 115 touches and a pass accuracy of 90 per cent.
He created four key chances for the Gunners while completing 100 per cent of his long balls and 100 per cent of his dribbles. Odegaard also won five duels.
The £30 million signing has been splendid with his playmaking role for the Gunners and the fans will be hoping that he can keep up the good form for the rest of the campaign.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are back within two points off leaders Liverpool and one point adrift of Manchester City. Their rivals are scheduled to face each other at Anfield.
The Gunners go first this weekend against Brentford at the Emirates Stadium. If things go their way, they could be top of the league standings at the international break.
