Arsenal star Bukayo Saka expected to be fit for Brentford game having felt ill in build-up vs Sheffield United, Gabriel Martinelli a doubt

Arsenal attacking midfielder Bukayo Saka is expected to be fit to play when the Gunners host Brentford on Saturday, according to the Evening Standard.

However, they are still sweating over the fitness of Gabriel Martinelli after he was forced off during the second half of Monday’s win over Sheffield United.

The Brazil international is due to be assessed after cutting his foot and it remains to be seen whether he will take part in the training today.

Saka is set to join his teammates as he is now feeling better after he was withdrawn at half-time against the Blades due to an illness.

The England international had been feeling ill in the build-up to the last game and was forced to go home early from training during one of the sessions last week.

He insisted on playing, weighing in with an assist in the 6-0 victory before being withdrawn.

Arsenal will be looking to make it eight straight Premier League wins when they play the struggling Bees, and they will move to the top of the table should they secure all three points.

Liverpool and Manchester City play on Sunday, and a draw between the league leaders and second-place team will see the Gunners retain their position based on a superior goal difference.

Saka has played a key role in the brilliance of Arsenal in the final third, with 13 goals and eight assists to his name in 26 league games so far.

Having him available for the Brentford game will be a huge boost given his huge influence, and manager Mikel Arteta will hope Leandro Trossard steps up again if Martinelli is unavailable for selection.

The 22-year-old was replaced with Gabriel Jesus against Sheffield having already scored a goal and bagged an assist, and Arsenal will pray he returns for the second-leg of their Champions League round of 16 fixtures against FC Porto on Tuesday.
