Arsenal are a very hot option for Joshua Zirkzee

Arsenal are a very hot option for Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee this summer, according to Calciomercato.

The Gunners are likely to pursue a new centre-forward during the off-season. They have been linked with several high-profile names over the past few months.

Zirkzee has been highlighted as a target and Calciomercato claim that the Gunners are ‘certainly’ a ‘very hot option’ for the Dutchman amid his impressive form.

The outlet add that several other Premier League clubs are also interested.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are awaiting for an auction between them. The German champions will be owed 35 per cent of any profit made from the striker’s transfer.

Zirkzee would not be an upgrade up front for Arsenal

The 22-year-old has had a good second year with Bologna, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists.

He has also caught the eye with his dribbling, hold-up play and ability to create chances for his teammates.

The Dutchman has attributes that would suit manager Mikel Arteta, but the hierarchy need to aim higher if the club want to seriously challenge for regular trophies in future.

Zirkzee, who is valued at £51 million, has the potential to develop into a top striker, but the Gunners need a more experienced marksman that can find the net consistently.

In our view, Brentford’s Ivan Toney would be a good choice if Arsenal are eyeing Premier League experience.

Looking abroad, Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen are among strikers who are attainable.

None of the trio will come on the cheap, but the Gunners should have plenty of funds to spend in the summer.

The club made a huge outlay of £200 million on signings last summer. We could see a similar spending spree.
