Gary Lineker reacts as Arsenal secure late win against Brentford to go top of the Premier League table

Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League table following a 2-1 victory over Brentford at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Declan Rice put the Gunners ahead 19 minutes into the game before the Bees drew level shortly before half-time after Yoane Wissa closed down Aaron Ramsdale and deflected his kick into the net after the Gunners goalkeeper failed to pass on time.

Arsenal pushed for a winner and eventually got it in the 86th minute after Kai Havertz headed in a fine cross from Ben White.

Ian Wright was watching the game in the BBC studios ahead of Match of the Day later tonight, and MOTD host Gary Lineker took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to share a clip of the Gunners legend reacting to the hard-fought win at the end of the game.

Arsenal are a point clear of Liverpool at the top of the table and will remain in first place should the Reds and Manchester City play out a draw at Anfield tomorrow due to their superior goal difference.

They are currently two points ahead of Man City and will hope the result of the game tomorrow favours them.

With ten league games left for them this campaign, Arsenal know they cannot afford to drop points and the win tonight is a huge one.

They are back in league action after the international break when they face City at Etihad Stadium on March 31, and a win there will take them further closer to the finishing line.

Arsenal have now won eight Premier League games in a row – their best winning streak since Arsene Wenger retired as manager – and they will be desperate to make it nine in the next game.

They have what it takes to leave Etihad with all three points, and their first league title since 2004 could be on the cards if they can sustain this momentum until the very end.
