Sir Jim Ratcliffe hopes Arsenal can win the title this season after all Mikel Arteta has done since becoming manager
|Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has showered praise on Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, claiming winning the Premier League title this term would be good for the Spaniard.
The Gunners are top of the English top-flight table after 28 games and are hoping to win the title for the first time since 2004.
The North Londoners finished second last term and will be desperate to go one better this time around, and Ratcliffe has admitted he loves the fact that Arteta has been given enough time to turn the fortunes of the club on the pitch around.
“It would be good for Arteta, I think,” the British billionaire said on the Geraint Thomas Cycling Club when the host tipped Arsenal for the title.
“It would be good for him because he’s done really well there and Arsenal have been patient with him, which is nice as well.”
Arteta replaced Unai Emery at the club in December 2019, winning the FA Cup at the end of his debut season.
Arsenal won the FA Community Shield in 2020 and 2023 and also secured a place in the group stages of the Champions League ahead of the current campaign for the first time since 2016-17.
They have since booked a place in the quarter-finals of the elite European competition for the first since 2009-10 and are going strong this season.
Arsenal finished eighth in Arteta’s first two campaigns before finishing fifth in 2021-22, and it is safe to say that the club’s board made a smart decision by sticking with their former midfielder despite the underwhelming start to his managerial tenure.
Their patience could soon be rewarded with a Premier League title and even the Champions League title this term as the Gunners have turned themselves into a force to reckon with in England and Europe.
