Arsenal have suddenly stopped contract talks with Jorginho

Arsenal have suddenly stopped contract negotiations with midfielder Jorginho, according to Calciomercato.

The Italy international joined the Gunners from Chelsea in January last year. He has been impressive with the limited playing time under manager Mikel Arteta.

Jorginho has been influential in some big wins this season and it was recently reported that the club had started talks over a new deal with the 32-year-old.

The Gunners hierarchy proposed to extend his stay until June 2025 with an option for 12 months, but it now appears contract talks have ‘suddenly stopped’.

Jorginho is now considering a return to Serie A and Calciomercato claim that Juventus are waiting for the right time to make a proposal to the experienced ace.

His current deal expires on June 30, but Arsenal still have the option to keep him for another year.

Jorginho could leave Arsenal this summer

Arsenal could have a mini-midfield overhaul during the summer transfer window. Mohamed Elneny seems likely to head for the exit door when his contract expires.

Meanwhile, Thomas Partey could be sold by the Gunners. The Ghanaian has one more year left in his deal and could make way amid his consistent injury problems.

Jorginho has looked the most likely to stay among the trio, but the recent stall in negotiations suggests that the Italian could also pursue a new challenge soon.

In our view, the London giants should trigger the extension clause in his contract such that they can demand a reasonable price for his departure to Juventus.

With the possibility of Elneny, Partey, Jorginho and possibly one more leaving (Smith Rowe or Lokonga), the club could invest on a couple of high-profile midfielders.
