Arsenal in front row to sign Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal are in the front row alongside Chelsea to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (page 8).

The Gunners are expected to invest on a marquee centre-forward and the club have been heavily linked with Gyokeres, who has been in scintillating form for Sporting.

Gazzetta dello Sport claim that the 25-year-old will cost at least €50 million this summer. They mention that Arsenal and Chelsea have big interest in his services.

The London giants are reportedly in the ‘front row’ to sign him ahead of Milan. The striker currently has a release clause worth €100m in his contract at Sporting.

Gyokeres will cost more than €50m this summer

The 25-year-old signed for the Portuguese giants after a promising season at Coventry City where he scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists from 50 appearances.

Gyokeres was on the radar of some English clubs including West Ham United, but he was eventually persuaded to move to Sporting where he has been a revelation.

The Swede has netted a staggering 36 goals alongside 14 assists from just 39 outings. He is currently one of the most in-form strikers in Europe with his exemplary form.

With this in mind, we don’t believe the striker will be available for €50m. Sporting are willing to provide a discount on the clause, but could hold out for at least €80m.

Arsenal face competition from Chelsea who have monitored him multiple times this month.

However, they should have the upper hand over their London rivals. The club are almost assured of Champions League football which the Blues won’t be able to offer next term.

This should hand a big advantage to the Gunners in the pursuit of Gyokeres.
