Jorginho impresses for Italy in friendly win vs Ecuador
|Arsenal midfielder Jorginho delivered a fine performance for Italy during their 2-0 friendly win over Ecuador at the Red Bull Arena last night.
The 32-year-old made his 52nd appearance for his national team and he was brilliant at the heart of the midfield, completing 93 per cent of his passes.
The experienced ace also won 100 per cent of his duels with five ball recoveries and two tackles.
Jorginho lost possession on just two occasions before he was substituted in the 67th minute.
The midfielder was out of contention for the national team earlier last year, but he has once again become a key player under Luciano Spaletti.
His form at Arsenal has contributed to the same and he is now likely to be involved for the Azzurri in their defence of the European crown this summer.
Meanwhile, there has been no progress over a new deal with Jorginho at Arsenal.
The club have the option to extend his stay for another year, but they were planning to discuss a new contract until June 2025 with an extension clause.
Calciomercato recently reported that negotiations have ‘suddenly stopped‘ and the midfielder is now leaning towards a potential comeback to Serie A.
As things stand, his contract expires at the end of June. Juventus are considering a contract offer, but Arsenal could demand a fee by activating the clause.
If Jorginho were to leave the club, there is a good possibility that the hierarchy could sign more than one midfielder during the summer transfer window.
Mohamed Elneny is also likely to leave on a free transfer while Thomas Partey could be sold too, having had another injury-plagued campaign at the club.
