Arsenal tracking Viktor Gyokeres closely ahead of possible move

Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the performances of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres ahead of a possible summer move to sign him.

The Sweden international has been in sensational form for the Portuguese giants this term. He has registered 36 goals and 14 assists from just 39 outings in all competitions.

His form has captured the attention of several elite European clubs. Football.london claim that Arsenal hold an interest and are closely following the progress of the 25-year-old.

It is reported that Gyokeres fulfils plenty of characteristics that the Gunners are looking in a striker.

Arsenal are also considering other options in the transfer market, but Brentford’s Ivan Toney is no longer a target. The club are eyeing a younger profile and he appears unlikely to be considered.

Gyokeres could be an ideal fit for the Gunners

The former Coventry City star has been scoring for fun since his move to the Portuguese top-flight. He has accumulated 36 goals, but has also impressed with other key attributes.

He has created almost two chances per game, registering 14 assists in the process. The Swede has won an impressive 7.3 duels per outing while completing more than two take-ons.

Aside from this, he has caught the eye with his distribution and tireless work rate. Gyokeres averages almost 19 passes per league game and has been a perfect team player.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will want a similar kind of striker next season. Gyokeres currently has a release clause worth €100 million in his deal, but could be signed for slightly less.

Sporting were reluctant to negotiate on the price during the January transfer window, but it has been reported that they could accept a lesser fee at the end of the campaign.

Hence, there is a good possibility that Gyokeres could be Arsenal’s marquee striker signing.
