Ian Wright singles out two key improvements under Mikel Arteta vs Big Six

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has singled out two key improvements under manager Mikel Arteta against the ‘Big Six’ in the Premier League.

The Gunners are currently top of the league table on goal difference to Liverpool following a sensational eight-game winning streak this year.

Arteta’s side now need to restart after the international break and they face a huge challenge against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Ahead of the game, Wright said that the Gunners have had a different mindset against the ‘Big Six’ since the arrival of Arteta and Edu at the helm.

The 60-year-old highlighted that there has been a complete performance and culture change at Arsenal which can never be underestimated.

He wrote on X in response to Arsenal’s improved record versus the ‘Big Six’: “We used to go into these games hoping we didn’t get hammered or hope for a draw.”

“Complete performance & culture change under Mikel (+ Edu) can never be underestimated.

“Everyone needs to be together for this next run because we know Liverpool & City have been here before & DONE it!”

Since the appointment of Arteta in late 2019, only Manchester City have won more points in the games involving the ‘Big Six’ in the English top-flight.

When we compare from last season, the Gunners have got just one point less than Pep Guardiola’s side in such fixtures. There has been an improvement.

Despite the positives, the club face a big hurdle at the Etihad. They ended a run of 12 straight league defeats to City with a 1-0 win at the Emirates in October.

If the Gunners manage to do the league double, it would be a massive statement. The club have not picked up a point at City since the 2-2 draw in May of 2016.

Their last league win (2-0) at the stadium came in January 2015. Hence, this weekend’s game is a huge test of Arsenal’s title credentials in the season run-in.
