Jorginho’s agent provides update on his future as Arsenal contract nears expiration

Joao Santos, the agent of Arsenal midfielder Jorginho, has provided an update concerning the future of the Italy international at the North London club.

The Gunners are keen on handing the former a new one-year deal and also include an additional one-year option in the deal, but both parties are yet to reach an agreement.

Jorginho wants to keep playing regularly and his agent has suggested that it will be key to determining whether he will remain at Arsenal beyond this summer.

“We will discuss with Arsenal about his contract being due to expire in June, it’s our priority,” Santos told Radio Sportiva.

“Arsenal have fantastic group and we will see if they need him for next season

“Returning to Italy? Why not? One day maybe.”

The 32-year-old has featured in 28 games across all competitions this term, missing just one of their last 11 games, and manager Mikel Arteta would love to retain his services for much longer from the look of things.

Jorginho was splendid in the 3-1 league victory over Liverpool in February, which led Arteta to shower praise on him afterwards, dubbing him a ‘really intelligent player’, and holding on to such an experienced and quality player makes plenty of sense for Arsenal.

He has shown several times this term that he still has plenty to offer, and his combination with Declan Rice in the middle of the park in the absence of Thomas Partey has been excellent.

The Ghanaian is back to full fitness while Arsenal could also bring in another midfielder in the summer amid regular links to Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz, but keeping Jorginho for at least one more campaign should be top priority for the Gunners.
