Arsenal should avoid move for injury-prone AC Milan star

Arsenal are likely to bolster their midfield department this summer and they have already been linked with multiple names in recent months.

Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Benfica’s Joao Neves have been mentioned as possible targets but Calciomercato.it claim that Ismael Bennacer could be on their radar.

Bennacer is liked in the Premier League and ‘especially at Arsenal’ where he spent a couple of years. The outlet add that AC Milan are prepared to sell him for €50 million.

The Rossoneri are also anticipating ‘important’ proposals from Saudi Arabia for the Algerian star.

In our opinion, the Gunners must avoid the prospect of re-signing Bennacer amid his injury woes.

Arsenal must avoid move for Bennacer amid injury woes

Bennacer has been one of the best holding midfielders in Serie A, but he has endured a difficult time over the past 18 months with multiple injury concerns at the Rossoneri.

He missed seven games last term with a hamstring injury before suffering a serious knee issue in May last year. He was absent for 27 games for club and country as a result.

Since his comeback, an adductor injury has kept him out for a few games. He is currently doubtful for the weekend, having withdrawn from international duty with a muscle strain.

In our view, there is a big warning sign for the Gunners. The club have already had to endure a similar situation with Thomas Partey, who has had persistent injury troubles.

Hence, it does not make sense to make an approach for another injury-plagued star. The Gunners should instead focus on Zubimendi, who is hugely admired by the manager.
