Arsenal and Tottenham to lock horns in race to sign Newcastle's Alexander Isak

Arsenal are set to face competition from their north London arch-nemesis Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, The Sun reports.

Both clubs are on the market for a centre forward this summer, and Isak has emerged as a target, especially with Newcastle struggling to adhere to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The Magpies are one of several Premier League clubs that must raise funds through player sales to avoid falling foul of PSR, and their situation could be exacerbated if they fail to secure European qualification.

Arsenal and Spurs are looking to exploit Newcastle’s PSR concerns by launching a mouth-watering move for Isak, who is considered one of the best strikers in the division.

Newcastle boss Howe has previously ruled out a summer exit for Isak, claiming the club will do everything possible to keep him at St. James’ Park for much longer.

However, the player is open to joining one of the top six clubs this summer, and Newcastle could be forced to cash in if a mammoth proposal of around £100 million lands on their lap.

Isak would be a brilliant signing for Arsenal

The debate surrounding Arsenal’s need for a new striker has rumbled on throughout the season. Despite being the most prolific side in the Premier League, manager Mikel Arteta seems intent on adding firepower upfront.

There are several players on their radar, but Isak would be an exceptional signing, having proven himself to be a reliable goalscorer in Tyneside.

The 24-year-old has netted 14 times in 21 Premier League appearances this season, although his tally should be significantly higher considering he has missed 12 big chances.

While his clinical finishing is undeniable, Isak’s injury record could be a concern. He missed a large chunk of last season with thigh problems and has already been sidelined for ten games this term due to groin issues.

Despite these concerns, Isak represents excellent value for money in today’s inflated transfer market. His age, talent, and potential upside make him a tempting proposition for the Gunners.

Arsenal should be looking to test Newcastle’s resolve by launching a bid this summer.
