Arsenal sent scouts to watch Porto striker Evanilson in action last weekend
|Arsenal sent scouts to watch Porto striker Evanilson in action against Estoril, according to O Jogo.
The Brazilian ace has been long linked with a move to the Premier League and O Jogo (page 10) claim that Manchester United were first interested in signing him in 2022.
Back then, the Red Devils reportedly made an offer of €65 million which was turned down. The 24-year-old went on to sign a new contract with a high release clause of €100m.
It is now reported that the Gunners had scouts in attendance to track the striker against Estoril. Porto had a day to forget as they suffered a surprise defeat on the road with 10 men.
Evanilson’s attributes would suit the Premier League
Evanilson started the season in poor fashion with two separate injuries. However, he has been Porto’s mainstay since October and has been a constant contributor of goals.
The former Fluminense man has netted 22 times from 35 appearances alongside six assists. We are not surprised that Arsenal have been monitoring his performances at Porto.
Evanilson recently started in the round of 16 ties versus the Gunners. He almost scored in the second leg at the Emirates Stadium. David Raya produced a splendid diving save on the stretch.
The Brazilian is enjoying the best phase of his career, but we would personally lean towards signing Viktor Gyokeres, who has 36 goals and 14 assists from just 40 outings for Sporting this season.
The Swede is a better all-round player and has astonishingly never been injured in his career. Evanilson, on the other hand, has been prone to minor niggles during his time at Porto.
This is the last thing that the Gunners need. They have already had to experience the same with Gabriel Jesus and would not want another marksman hampered by injury issues.
