Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker insist Arsenal defender Ben White is having a great season despite antics against Brighton & Hove Albion

Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have admitted that Arsenal defender Ben White is having a great season despite slamming him for his antics against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

The Gunners star nudged Brighton full-back Pervis Estupinan during their 3-0 victory while jogging past the Ecuadorian, and the Seagulls star retaliated by shoving him.

White dramatically collapsed to the ground and held his throat, but the incident was checked and cleared following a VAR review, and while Shearer and Lineker were far from pleased with the antics of the Arsenal defender, they both agree on the latest episode of the Rest is Football podcast that he has been a top performer this term.

Lineker: “He is a good player, though. He is having a really good season.”

Shearer: “He is having a great season.”

Micah Richards: “Oh He’s class. Class player. I’m so happy for him.”

White will do anything to give Arsenal an advantage, and while play-acting must be frowned against, the Gunners star was only willing to employ one of the oldest tricks in the book to ensure his side moved to the top of the Premier League table at the weekend.

They did eventually and have remained there after 31 games in 2023-24 following results elsewhere.

There are seven games standing between Arsenal and a first Premier League title since 2004, and they need to ensure they finish the campaign on the strongest of notes to pip Liverpool and Manchester City to the prize.

A solid defence has been key to their incredible title pursuit, with only 24 league goals conceded so far, and White has been a top and consistent contributor to their success at the back.

Arsenal have also scored the most league goals (75) in the ongoing campaign despite their lack of a clinical number 9, with their goals spread across the pitch.
