Arsenal could include players as makeweight for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal have been impressed with the scouting reports on Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres and are now expected to firm up their interest with an offer during the summer transfer window, according to Portuguese outlet Jornal de Noticias.

However, the Primeira Liga club want suitors to trigger his €100 million release clause to release him and are unwilling to negotiate or bring down their asking price.

Arsenal are not ready to part with such a fee for Gyokeres but are ready to offer some of their fringe players as makeweight in a deal, either temporarily or permanently.

The Gunners will also face fierce competition for the services of the Sweden international striker, with Liverpool and Chelsea also keen on bringing him to the Premier League ahead of next season.

Gyokeres is high on the preference list for Arsenal as they look to bolster their attacking ranks in the summer, with his 36 goals and 14 assists in 43 games impressing them and other suitors.

The 25-year-old bagged 40 goals in his last two seasons with Championship club Coventry City before moving to the Portuguese top-flight last summer, and returning to England to prove himself in the Premier League could appeal to him.

Arsenal need a quality number 9 to establish themselves as perennial title challengers, and Gyokeres fits the bill.

His passing, dribbling and finishing are key strengths which have made him stand out this term, and the Gunners could do with such a complete striker within their ranks.

The North Londoners need to strengthen their squad this summer irrespective of what happens with their title ambitions this term, and they will have the cash to splash again on two or three top signings as manager Mikel Arteta looks to further make his side a force to reckon with.
