Martin Zubimendi has strong support from within Arsenal’s recruitment team

Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is one of the top targets for Arsenal this summer, according to Daily Mail.

The Gunners are expected to make multiple signings during the summer transfer window. A new defensive midfielder could be one of the top priorities.

Thomas Partey has looked far from his best amid his injuries this season. He could be offloaded by the Gunners with his contract expiring in June next year.

Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny are about to enter the final two months of their deals and there is a possibility that both could leave on free transfers.

Amidst this, the Gunners have been linked again with long-term target Zubimendi, who has a release clause worth £50 million in his Sociedad contract.

Daily Mail claim that the midfielder has strong support from within Arsenal’s recruitment team.

Arsenal could finally sign Zubimendi from Sociedad

The Gunners have followed Zubimendi for some period of time. They tried to sign him two years ago, but the Spaniard was determined to continue at his boyhood club.

The midfielder reiterated the same stance last summer after Sociedad qualified for the Champions League. However, it is anticipated that he could leave this year.

In that case, Arsenal will definitely be in contention for his signature. Zubimendi is one of the best holding midfielders in La Liga. His concentration and positioning are his main strengths.

He has also impressed with his overall distribution and strong aerial presence. The 25-year-old could be a perfect foil alongside Declan Rice, who could operate from the number eight role.

Jorginho and Rice have been brilliant as a midfield pairing in recent months, but the former’s limited recovery pace has been a drawback. Zubimendi would be a solid upgrade.
