Arsenal eyeing deal for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal are planning a summer move for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres after cooling their interest in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, according to O Jogo.

The Gunners are expected to invest on a marquee centre-forward this summer and they have been continuously linked with Gyokeres and Osimhen in recent weeks.

However, O Jogo (page 15) claim that the London club have decided to prioritise a deal for Gyokeres over Osimhen due to the price tag and higher wages involved.

Osimhen, who has netted 15 goals in the campaign, has a release clause worth £111 million in his contract and earns almost £211,000 per week at Napoli.

On the other hand, Gyokeres has a buy-out clause of £86m in his Sporting deal. He currently earns only £39,000 per week with the current Primeira Liga leaders.

The Swede has been in sensational form in his debut season. He has already registered 36 goals alongside 16 assists from just 44 appearances in all competitions.

Gyokeres would be a perfect fit for Arsenal

Arsenal are currently lacking a genuine goalscoring striker up front. Kai Havertz has fared well in the last few months, but his finishing still needs to improve.

In our view, Gyokeres would be a perfect fit for the Gunners over Osimhen. The Swede is an all-round striker. Aside from his goals, he has been a constant provider of assists.

The former Coventry City striker is also good with the ball at his feet. He averages almost 19 passes per outing this term. Osimhen has managed only eight passes per game.

Gyokeres has won twice the number of duels as Osimhen (3.7) per appearance. While Osimhen has had injury concerns, Gyokeres has never picked up an injury in his career.

All of this suggest that Gyokeres would be a better acquisition for Arsenal.
