Mikael Silvestre advises Arsenal to sign ‘very intelligent’ Alexander Isak

Arsenal and Tottenham to lock horns in race to sign Newcastle's Alexander Isak

Former Arsenal and Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre has advised the Gunners to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak this summer.

The Gunners have had a good season under manager Mikel Arteta, but they continue to lack a genuine goalscoring striker who can take them to the next level.

Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz have all played up front this term, but none of them have managed more than eight goals in the role.

The club need to sign a marquee centre-forward ahead of next season and Silvestre believes the club should secure the services of Isak, who would suit their playing style.

The Frenchman added that he is very intelligent, can link-up play and he is more of a striker than Havertz.

He said in a recent interview when asked to compare him with Thierry Henry: “I’ve followed Isak from his days in Sweden and Spain. He’s progressed well and it’s good to see him back in form after injuries.”

“Isak started as a nine whereas Thierry was more of a winger so it’s a different profile but he’s doing well. It’s a shame Newcastle aren’t as dominant. He would be suited to playing for Arsenal.

“Very intelligent, link up play and he’s more of a striker than Kai Havertz. That would be a good fit. Leave Thierry alone. There’s only one Thierry Henry.”

Arsenal need marquee striker with Premier League experience

The Gunners are currently the second-highest goalscorers in the Premier League this term, but there continues to remain the debate over the lack of a marquee striker in the squad.

They need to find a proper solution during the summer. Isak would be a fine addition to the ranks.

The Swede has been in fantastic form with 21 goals from 34 games this term, but he has the knack for picking up injuries. He has missed 10 matches with multiple groin problems.

On top of this, Isak is not necessarily known for his chance creation. The 24-year-old has fantastic dribbling skills, but still needs to improve with his creativity in the final third.

Isak could be prised away for £100 million amid Newcastle’s financial issues, but we would personally prefer the Gunners to pursue the services of Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa.

Villa are on course for Champions League qualification, but Arsenal could still test their resolve. It has been claimed that a fee of over £70m could persuade Villa into selling him.

Some fans may say that Watkins won’t have a resale value, but we believe he would be a good acquisition for the next five years as the Gunners look to win some silverware.

Watkins has had a fabulous campaign with 26 goals and 10 assists. He has created nine big chances in the top-flight compared to Isak’s two. He would be an ideal fit to lead the line for Arsenal.
