Mikel Arteta reacts to Cole Palmer’s absence from Chelsea training

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reacted to Cole Palmer’s absence from Chelsea training ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League derby.

The Gunners returned to winning ways against Wolverhampton Wanderers on the road last weekend.

Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard were the goalscorers in what was a must-win game for the Gunners to stay in the title pursuit.

The north London giants now face another tricky challenge against Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.

Ahead of the game, it has been reported that Palmer is a major doubt for the Blues, having missed today’s training session due to illness.

When asked about it, Arteta said that the Gunners have no control over who’s available for Chelsea and they will be good regardless who they put out.

He said live on Arsenal.com: “We have no control over their availability. Whoever they put out they’ll be good. They’ve been doing better than people say.”

Arsenal were much fancied to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge earlier this season, but the result was completely different as the Blues dominated the derby.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were deservedly 2-0 ahead at one stage before a Robert Sanchez error allowed Declan Rice to score a wonderful long-range goal.

Leandro Trossard pulled Arsenal level soon after and the Gunners almost won the game through Eddie Nketiah whose effort was just wide of the target.

Hence, the Gunners can’t take the Blues lightly. The players need to start quick off the blocks tomorrow and ensure that they secure an early advantage.

Arsenal may need to win their remaining five games to have any chance of lifting the league title. They would still require Manchester City to drop points.
