Arsenal keen on AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana
|Arsenal are one of the clubs interested in recruiting the services of AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana in the summer transfer window, according to French outlet Foot Mercato.
The ‘magnificent’ France international is also on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan, and he is expected to leave the Ligue 1 outfit this summer having come close last summer.
Arsenal are expected to be without one of Thomas Partey and Jorginho next term, with the former likely to be sold to raise funds, while the latter is yet to agree to terms of an extension as he approaches the last two months of his contract.
As a result, the Gunners want another defensive midfielder and Fofana has been identified as one of their potential targets.
Fulham and Manchester United were keen on bringing the 25-year-old to the Premier League last summer, and a move could finally happen if Arsenal decide that he is their man.
The Frenchman has also been influential in attack for Monaco this term despite primarily being a defensive midfielder, with three goals and three assists to his name in 28 league games, and he has also become a regular for Les Bleus.
Arsenal can land Fofana for a decent fee as he has just a year left on his contract at the Principality club, and it appears he impressed them during pre-season when he bagged a goal against them in the Emirates Cup.
Apart from his constant dribbling and ball intercepting skills, his leadership, ability to break through lines and thread passes to the forwards are some of his qualities the Gunners could do with, but whether they can beat the likes of PSG to his services remains to be seen.
