Arsenal thinking about Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion

Arsenal are thinking about a possible move for Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion, who is currently on loan with Deportivo Alaves.

The Spain Under-21 international joined Alaves on loan at the start of the season. He has fared decently with nine goals from 32 La Liga games.

His progress has caught the eye of many European clubs. Mundo Deportivo (page 12) report that the Gunners are one of his admirers.

Mikel Arteta’s side are reportedly ‘thinking’ about him. It is claimed that London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring the striker.

Arsenal unlikely to move for Omorodion

The 20-year-old has had a solid loan campaign with Alaves. He has directly contributed to 31 per cent (nine goals & one assist) of their goals (32) in La Liga this term.

Despite this, Arsenal are unlikely to move for him due to multiple reasons.

First of all, the club are looking for a marquee striker who can help them challenge for the Premier League title. Omorodion is only a young prospect and has yet to find consistency.

The 6ft 4in striker averages only seven passes per outing with just 38 per cent of his duels won. The Gunners need someone who can hit the ground running from the off.

Even if Arsenal are interested, they are unlikely to trigger the hefty release clause of €80-100 million which Atletico are holding out to part ways with their promising youngster.

For the same price, Mikel Arteta’s side could sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting. The Swede has been in exceptional form with 41 goals and 15 assists in his debut campaign.

He is widely anticipated to leave the Portuguese champions and Arsenal should pursue his services.
