Arsenal very impressed with Viktor Gyokeres who’s almost certain to leave Sporting

Arsenal are very impressed by the performances of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres over the course of the season, according to Jornal de Noticias.

The Gunners are widely expected to sign a marquee centre-forward during the summer transfer window and Gyokeres has emerged as one of their top targets.

It is now reported by Jornal de Noticias (page 30) that the Gunners have sent scouts to watch the Swede throughout the season and have been ‘very impressed’ by his displays.

The Swede is ‘almost certain’ to leave the Portuguese champions, but he won’t come on the cheap with Sporting likely to hold out for the €100 million release clause in his deal.

Gyokeres would be a perfect striking signing for Arsenal

The Gunners have had another progressive season under manager Mikel Arteta and they still have a chance to end their two-decade long wait for the league title.

Regardless of how the season ends, Arteta may want a regular goalscorer up front next term.

Kai Havertz has done a splendid job since mid-February with eight goals and five assists, but the manager may want strong competition for places for the number nine role.

Gyokeres would be a superb addition to the ranks amid his splendid debut season at Sporting. The 25-year-old has registered a stunning 41 goals and 15 assists this term.

Aside from his goal contributions, Gyokeres has made almost 18 passes per game, winning almost seven duels. He has completed over two take-ons per appearance too.

His all-round playing style would perfectly suit the requirements of Arteta. The Gunners boss prefers a modern striker who can link-up play from deep lying positions.
