Arsenal boost as Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount ruled out of Sunday game through injury

Arsenal have been handed a boost ahead of their trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Sunday as the Red Devils have suffered a huge injury blow.

Manager Erik ten Hag confirmed on Friday afternoon that England international midfielder Mason Mount has picked up a fresh knock and is ruled out of the game.

The former Chelsea star returned to action in March having been unavailable for selection since last November, and he featured for 80 minutes on Monday during the 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace.

Man United are desperate to bounce back from that defeat and were hoping to count on Mount for the game against Arsenal, but the 25-year-old is unavailable.

While the trio of Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford have trained, being without the midfielder is not the type of news Ten Hag would have wanted ahead of the visit of the Gunners.

Arsenal are in search of their first Premier League title since 2004 and will have to win their remaining two games against Man United and Everton while hoping Manchester City drop points in any of their remaining three games.

Man United have been ravaged by injuries all season and losing someone Ten Hag was hoping to help stop Arsenal is another huge blow.

The Gunners have been handed another boost against an already-weakened Red Devils squad, and they remain favourites heading into the clash.

They have six wins in their last ten games against Man United, drawing twice, but the two defeats have come in their last two Premier League games at Old Trafford and they will need to be wary despite the situation of things with the Red Devils.

Arsenal have to leave Old Trafford with all three points to keep their title charge alive, and one of their London neighbours could do them a favour as Man City face Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United in their remaining fixtures.
