Mikel Arteta confirms Saka and Tomiyasu are doubtful ahead of Man Utd clash

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Bukayo Saka and Takehiro Tomiyasu will need to be assessed ahead of the Premier League meeting against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Gunners are currently top of the table with 83 points, one ahead of Manchester City who have a game in hand. The club need to keep on winning to stay in the hunt for the league title.

Speaking in today’s press conference, Arteta has revealed that Tomiyasu and Saka are doubtful.

Tomiyasu was absent from a training session earlier this week while Saka was spotted with a strapping on his left leg after a cut from a poor challenge from Bournemouth midfielder Ryan Christie.

Arteta has said that the duo will need to be assessed. He is hopeful that their respective concerns can be resolved with another training session.

He said: “A few doubts that tomorrow we can resolve with another training session so we’ll have to see. A few doubts over Tomi and Saka yes.”

Arsenal have had a dreadful record at Old Trafford over the years. They have been on the winning side on just one occasion during their previous 16 visits to the stadium in the league.

Hence, the club face a huge test of their title credentials on Sunday. United were completely outclassed by Crystal Palace on Monday night where they suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat.

However, the Red Devils have been handed a triple injury boost for the weekend with captain Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay back in team training.

United are not an easy opposition to face in their home turf and they will look to make things tough for Arsenal. The Gunners may need a quick start with a goal to settle their nerves.
