Declan Rice and Ian Wright react to Mohamed Elneny’s exit from Arsenal

Mohamed Elneny picks up injury during international break

Declan Rice and Ian Wright have responded on Instagram after Mohamed Elneny announced his departure from Arsenal this summer.

The Egypt international has been with the Gunners since January 2016 and he is currently the longest-serving player at the north London club.

The midfielder was initially fancied to leave the club last season, but the hierarchy extended his contract for 12 months after a serious knee injury.

With his deal expiring at the end of June, Elneny has now confirmed his exit through his social media accounts.

Rice and Wright were among those who took to Instagram to praise the 31-year-old.

Rice described the long-serving midfielder as a ‘legend’ while Wright thanked Elneny for his contribution at Arsenal, he posted: ‘Thank you, Moh’.

Elneny has made 161 appearances in his Arsenal career. He has been a fringe player for the past few seasons under manager Mikel Arteta.

The midfielder has been content to stay despite the lack of playing time, but he has now made the decision to pursue a new challenge.

We won’t be surprised if he receives proposals from other Premier League clubs. The Egyptian is still a decent player with ball-playing ability.

Alongside Elneny, Cedric Soares and Reuell Walters are also expected to leave on free transfers.

Walters has been highly-rated among the fans, but he has chosen to move on, having failed to break into the first-team plans of Arteta in recent years.

Arsenal host Everton in their final game of the Premier League season tomorrow.

A victory could hand them the title if Manchester City drop points against West Ham United.

Elneny will be hoping to make a late cameo appearance for the Gunners.
