Arsenal insistently knock to sign Benjamin Sesko
|Arsenal and Chelsea are determined to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko during the summer transfer window, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Sesko had a good debut campaign with Leipzig in the German top-flight. He finished the season with 18 goals after scoring in his final seven league games.
The Slovenian has been fancied to pursue a bigger challenge this summer and Corriere dello Sport (page 15) claim that Arsenal and Chelsea ‘insistently knock’ on Leipzig’s door for him.
AC Milan are also admirers of Sesko, but they are unlikely to afford his €65 million (£55m) release clause which the London duo are well capable of paying.
Meanwhile, journalist Florian Plettenberg claims that Arsenal are pushing to sign the 20-year-old, but no final decision has been made on the player’s side.
Sesko would be a good acquisition for Arsenal
Arsenal deployed Kai Havertz from the number nine role during the final months of last season. It proved worthwhile with eight goals and seven assists from 14 appearances.
Despite this, manager Mikel Arteta will want a strong competitor in the squad, considering Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have failed to make regular goal contributions.
Sesko would be a fine signing due to his huge potential. He is well adept to the high pressing game at Leipzig and does not shy away from engaging in duels.
The youngster is not known for his ball-playing ability, but makes up for it with his keen eye for goal.
Sesko had a shot-to-goal conversion rate of 30 per cent in the Bundesliga last term. In comparison, Havertz only converted 19 per cent of his shots into goals.
He would be a good addition to bolster the club’s chances of winning the league next season.
