Arsenal have agreed deal to sign Ajax goalkeeper Tommy Setford
|Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign another goalkeeper in the current transfer window, according to David Ornstein.
The Gunners recently confirmed the permanent signing of David Raya from Brentford following his successful season-long loan stint.
The club have also bolstered their academy ranks with 18-year-old Lucas Nygaard. They have now agreed to sign Tommy Setford from Ajax.
The teenager, who was born in the Netherlands, has already represented England at four different age groups.
He was with the England Under 20s for the friendlies against Sweden and Ireland in June, but was left on the bench.
Arsenal are now set to sign him on a four-year contract. They have finalised his transfer for €1 million plus add-ons. He will undergo his medical next week.
Setford, who has been described as a ‘big talent‘ by Ajax sources, is likely to feature for the development squad.
However, he could be involved in the pre-season tour of the United States with Raya and Aaron Ramsdale away at Euro 2024.
The duo could be handed a two-week rest following the tournament and may not be involved until the start of next month.
Karl Hein, who recently signed a new long-term deal, could be the first-choice goalkeeper in the upcoming US tour.
Arsenal have plans of signing Dan Bentley from Wolverhampton Wanderers and are likely to make an improved bid for him.
Meanwhile, the Gunners are due to evaluate Ramsdale’s future on his return to the club.
Should the club find a suitable buyer, they are expected to make an approach for Espanyol shot-stopper Joan Garcia.
