Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta provides injury update on Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu

Arsenal kick off the 2024-25 Premier League campaign next Saturday when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Emirates Stadium, and manager Mikel Arteta has provided injury updates on Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The Japanese international did not join the rest of the Gunners squad on their pre-season tour following a knee issue, and he will not be featuring against Wolves.

Tomiyasu was unavailable for selection when Arsenal took on Lyon in the Emirates Cup final today, and Arteta said the 25-year-old defender will spend some weeks before he returns to full fitness.

“It will take weeks on that one, unfortunately,” the Gunners boss said after the game.

“He is going to have to be patient.”

There was good news concerning Timber who has been struggling with a load-bearing injury, with the Netherlands international full-back now expected to be available next weekend after missing the games against Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon.

“It is fine. He has been doing some individual work,” Arteta said concerning the former Ajax star.

“We expect him to be ready to train with the group next week.”

Timber only played two games last term before an injury ruled him out of the rest of the campaign, and Arsenal fans were scared when they heard he was not fit to face Leverkusen during the week due to an injury.

Fortunately, there is nothing to worry about and the Dutchman will be looking forward to establishing himself as a key player under Arteta this term.

Tomiyasu has struggled with injuries since joining Arsenal from Bologna in 2021, missing 42 games as a result of various fitness problems.

He will be hoping his fortunes improve this term, and the Gunners could do with his quality and the depth he offers to their defence as they go in search of major silverware.
