Michael Owen and Darren Bent tip Arsenal to pip Manchester City to the 2024-25 Premier League title
|Arsenal will hope to be third time lucky in their pursuit of the Premier League title in 2024-25 after finishing behind Manchester City in each of the last two seasons.
The Gunners last finished a season as English top-flight champions in 2004, and manager Mikel Arteta and his men will be desperate to go one better.
Michael Owen, Leon Osman and Darren Bent are backing the North Londoners to do exactly just that, predicting Arsenal as the winners of the Premier League title this season.
The trio are confident of the chances of the Gunners, with Owen bolding predicting the end of the reign of Manchester City and Osman insisting Riccardo Calafiori – who he dubs the most exciting signing so far – could help get Arsenal the title despite not being a signing “to get you out of your seat.”
Other pundits with Premier League productions do not agree with them as far as who will win the title this season goes, with Karen Carney, Tim Sherwood, Shay Given, Mark Schwarzer, Don Hutchison and Matt Holland all tipping Man City to make it five league triumphs in a row.
Pep Guardiola and his side pipped Arsenal to the title by two points last term and five points in 2022-23, and they will fancy their chances of doing it again this season.
While the Gunners have added Calafiori to their team, spending £42 million on the Italy international defender and hoping to do further business this summer by signing Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino and a forward, it appears Man City will only be signing Brazilian forward Savio this window as they have enough squad depth.
Arteta has also strengthened his squad at the back and will further bolster his midfield should Merino join, but failure to sign a number 9 capable of delivering the goods like Erling Braut Haaland could be the undoing of his side.
Nevertheless, Arsenal are feeling confident heading into the campaign, and a statement win against Wolverhampton Wanderers in their season opener on Saturday will send a message to Man City and co.
