Predicted Arsenal line-up vs Wolves, two changes from Emirates Cup
|
Arsenal start their Premier League campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Gunners are on a six-match winning streak versus the Midlands outfit and will be aiming to continue the run in the season opener.
We believe manager Mikel Arteta could make a couple of chances from the 2-0 win over Lyon in the Emirates Cup last weekend.
Formation: 4-3-3
Predicted Line-up:
David Raya is the undisputed starter in goal for the Gunners. He is expected to keep his place between the sticks ahead of Aaron Ramsdale.
In front of him, it could be a familiar backline from the last two years. Ben White is a nailed-on starter from the right side of the defence.
William Saliba will partner Gabriel Magalhaes in central defence. Oleksandr Zinchenko should get the nod over Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori at left-back.
Zinchenko was brilliant in the last two friendlies. He scored a superb goal versus Bayer Leverkusen and should have had an assist versus Lyon too.
He deserves his starting spot ahead of Calafiori, who may need time to adapt to the league. Timber has just returned to training after a foot concern.
In midfield, Thomas Partey could make way. We feel Kai Havertz could drop into the centre of the park alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.
Partey had a mixed pre-season campaign. Against Wolves, the Gunners may not require his defensive assurance from the off. He could come off the bench.
Further forward, Bukayo Saka is expected to continue on the right wing, but Leandro Trossard could get the nod over Gabriel Martinelli on the left flank.
Martinelli has lacked the cutting edge in the final third. He missed a one-on-one chance versus Lyon. This could contribute to him dropping to the bench.
Gabriel Jesus is likely to lead the line for the Gunners. The Brazilian looks leaner and fitter since last season and he scored a couple of goals in pre-season.
