Arsenal winger has significant chance to stay as Fabio Vieira leaves on loan

Arsenal attacker Reiss Nelson has a big chance of staying at the club this summer, according to The Athletic.

The Gunners are currently focused on outgoings. Eddie Nketiah is anticipated to join Crystal Palace in a deal worth £30 million including add-ons.

Meanwhile, the club have sanctioned a loan deal to Porto for Fabio Vieira. He will undergo his medical today before rejoining his former club.

The Athletic now report that Vieira’s move to Porto could have a direct impact on Nelson.

The 24-year-old has spent the summer exploring a move away, but there is now a ‘significant chance’ that he could stay beyond Friday’s deadline.

Nelson unlikely to leave unless Arsenal sign new winger

The Gunners have made just one outfield signing in Riccardo Calafiori this summer, but they are expected to confirm Mikel Merino’s arrival very soon.

As things stand, the hierarchy are not planning more arrivals. The club have been fancied to sign a versatile winger, but there has been no progress.

This could mean that Nelson could stay until January at least. Bukayo Saka is Arsenal’s undisputed starter on the right wing, but they need a back-up behind him.

Nelson is presently the preferred deputy under manager Mikel Arteta, considering Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are more effective from the left wing.

Leicester City opened talks to sign Nelson on loan with an obligation to buy last month.

It was reported that the Foxes were confident of securing a deal for the talented winger, considering he previously worked under manager Steve Cooper.

However, there has been no update ever since. This is a big hint that Arsenal are reluctant to lose Nelson.

Nelson, who has been described as a ‘special talent‘ by manager Mikel Arteta, could still leave the club if they land a marquee winger before the deadline.
