Arsenal submit bid to sign Espanyol star

Arsenal are planning another signing before the transfer window closes on Friday evening.

The Gunners recently sanctioned the sales of Eddie Nketiah and Aaron Ramsdale to Crystal Palace and Southampton respectively. They are now aiming to sign a replacement for the latter.

The club have already agreed terms with Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia and talks are now underway with the La Liga outfit to find an agreement before the transfer deadline tomorrow.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Mikel Arteta’s side have offered to pay £16.8 million for the 23-year-old shot-stopper, but Espanyol are reluctant to sell him for less than his £25.2m release clause.

Talks are likely to continue between the clubs with Garcia determined to join the Gunners.

Arsenal poised to sign Garcia as Ramsdale’s replacement

The Gunners were holding out for £30m to part ways with Ramsdale earlier this summer and they have eventually agreed a deal worth £25m for his departure to the Saints.

His exit is expected to coincide with a new acquisition. Garcia has been Arsenal’s preferred target for some time and the club have now entered into formal negotiations.

There is presently a significant gap in the valuation between the clubs, but Arsenal will be hoping to reach a middle ground for a package of around £21m including add-ons.

Garcia will only join the club as David Raya’s deputy, but he could be a potential starter in future.

The Spaniard was brilliant against Atletico Madrid night as Espanyol played out a 0-0 draw in La Liga.

He made a stunning seven saves with six of those inside the box. Garcia completed 19 passes in the game with nine long balls. He also made nine recoveries at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Garcia made one error leading to a goal, but his blushes were saved by an offside decision.

The Olympic gold medalist appears a bright prospect and would be an upgrade on Ramsdale, judging by his distribution from the back and ability to deliver accurate long balls.
